About the Coffee

Located in a biological Conservation Corridor, Valle del Cauca lies between the National Park of Tatama and "serrania de los paraguas". Some years ago, this region was identified by Conservation International as one of the two main conservation corridors in Colombia. Farmers in this region are keenly aware of the importance of the preservation of natural resources, water management and friendly environmental practices.

Our Valle del Cauca Excelso was decaffeinated in Colombia using ethyl acetate - an organic compound derived from sugar cane - to remove 97% of the caffeine from coffee beans. The process tends to leave a pleasantly sugary flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the shelf life of your coffee?

We recommend enjoying your coffee within 4-5 weeks after it’s been roasted. Although we use environmentally-friendly bags and a one-way valve to slow the oxidation process—freshness can’t last forever. If you choose to grind your beans well in advance of making coffee, we recommend that your grounds be used within 14 days.

How much is shipping?

Standard shipping on orders in the USA is $7.99 up to 70 pounds, includes tracking and insurance up to $100 dollars.

What’s with the weird vent thing on the bag?

We use a one-way valve system to allow carbon dioxide to escape the bag (beans) without allowing more oxygen in. By keeping extra oxygen out of the bag, your beans will last longer and your coffee will stay fresh.

How should I store my coffee?

Keep it out of the sun, the fridge, and the freezer. Extreme temperatures or exposure to light can alter the taste of your coffee. If possible, try to keep your coffee sealed in our environmentally-friendly bags until you’re ready to grind them.

What method do you recommend to make my coffee?

We like making our coffee in a variety of methods. Potter’s Coffee will taste great whether you choose drip, French press, or pour-over method.

Can I buy ground coffee from Potter’s Coffee?

We only sell our coffee in whole bean form. The reason for this is the flavor is much
better if you grind your beans just before you add hot water. Pre-ground coffee can
become stale and bland. The best way to ensure you taste the difference between
our freshly roasted beans and the big cans of coffee on the store shelf is to grind as
late as possible.
